I've been working self employed for an elderly who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/ dementia. He is a very close friend of my family so I agreed to move in with him and become his full time caregiver. He draws a little SSI check once a mo. But It's never enough to cover his expenses. For the past 7 mo I've been having to cover half his bills. Can I claim him as a dependent on my TaX return or would I just be hurting myself and have to pay out more?

Find Care & Housing
You will need to check the IRS website to see how you could qualify to take this person as your *dependent*. One would need to be paying over 50% of this persons care such as food, clothing, utilities, housing, medical costs, etc. Being that you are living in his home, that might be questionable since you are receiving free housing.

No you cannot claim your employer as your dependent. Hopefully you are paying taxes on what he is paying you, that could be another problem. If you are flying under the radar, do not draw attention to yourself.
