Hello, again, all!

I'm researching admitting Mom (who is home-bound, not in a hospital or other facility) to a suburban Chicago hospital -- options including Rush University, Northwestern University, and University of Chicago.

I wondered if any of y'all knew the admitting procedures for any of these hospitals.

We had to eliminate Mayo Clinic because they won't accept a patient transfer from home -- only from another hospital.

Is that the case with these local hospitals? I was also hoping not to have to take her through the Emergency Room in order to admit, but I don't know if that's an option.

Any help would be appreciated!
Ann

Admissions other than ER come from an MD who is on staff. Much depends on what the medical need is, if the insurance will approve the procedure. It's all about the paperwork.

You're trying to bypass a necessary. Hospitals don't just admit patients as Pam says. There has to be medical necessity as determined by a doctor -- otherwise, insurance won't pay.

Call her doctor and ask him to do it. Mom doesn't have a doctor? Call yours. Otherwise, just take her to the emergency room and let them go through their necessary routine...probably the easiest route.

Why do you want her admitted? That's where we need to start. What's going on with your mom?
