My sister, three years older than I, has always been difficult for me to deal with. She is an alcoholic in the early stages of dementia at age 71..I didn't want to rescue her, but the police were calling me because she would be homeless on the street if I hadn't intervened. She has been living in my house for almost two years now. She has no insight--doesn't know she has dementia or an alcohol problem. No alcohol in my house because she is here. She takes my belongings and hides them and blames me for anything that bothers her. I am gradually learning NOT to take any of this personally, since it has nothing to do with reality or with me. But she's my big sister, and old habits die hard!

Find Care & Housing
You could have told the police to take her to the county hospital for a psych eval and she would have been placed in a proper facility. I don't know how much longer you can take this. My sister is 59 and lives in a group home with peers. You might look into that.
