There are medications that can help with the anxiety and depression.
With mom's diagnosis of dementia you or whoever is her POA is the one that makes the decisions as to her medical care.
If she is yelling and screaming and you are concerned you could call 911 and say that she is having a medical/mental health crisis and she needs to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
For her to be in a "constant state of duress" is not healthy for either of you. This would be enough to seek medical care.

Frankly no amount of "distraction" or other ideas of redirection is going to help. The concern is if the yelling and screaming becomes physical and you are injured or she hurts herself.

Try making her involved in things . Reverse the roles. Act as if you need to go to the doctor and you would like for her to come with you to make sure everything is ok. Distract her with things like folding 25 face towels and or create documents that she could look over and fill out . Tryna not to tell her what to do but to simply involve her as if ur needing her help. Try calming music jazz music or just soft tunes or familiar music like frank Sinatra. Try to lighten to mood
