I would encourage you to get some help seriously!!! Call your local Area Agency on Aging and check to see what programs they have. I would also encourage you to get other family involved. It can be an overwhelming task without support. If you can find a caregiver support group go... It would be very valuable to you... take care and God Bless...

The only way to deal with this situation is a lot of prayer and a lot of support . My husband and I were caregivers for both my parents ( mom had stage 4 ovarian cancer and dad had early onset Alzheimer's) and it was probably the hardest job I've ever had but also the most rewarding .You might have a lot of days where you don't know if you can physically, mentally and emotionally go on but after they're gone you feel like there isn't anything you wouldn't do to have those days back. ---- Reaching out to friends and family members is extremely important .Don't be too prideful or ashamed to ask for help. You need to stay healthy so that you can be there for them and since you're dealing with 2 very different diseases ,you'll have to wear many hats .First pray and ask God what to do .He'll put people in your pathway that you never even thought to ask for help and He'll give you peace that passes ALL understanding . God Bless and you are in my prayers.

I agree with everything sonealog says. You can't do it by yourself. If your parents can afford it, look into a caregiver coming to their home to help out with the daily things like cooking, cleaning, laundry etc. Also check with your Area Agency on Aging. The one in my area provides all of the information you need to find out what kind of help they may be eligible for. Also like the above poster said, ask your family for help. Good Luck.

It is not unusual to have both aged parents very sick at the same time. You have to look in the mirror and remind yourself that you are only ONE person. You have to ask for help. You need to be sure their doctors understand what is happening at home, so they will order all the help they can for you that your parents are eligible for from Medicare/Medicaid. Apply for grants and V.A. benefits if applicable. You must ask siblings and other relatives. You ask friends and pastors for referrals to caregivers that can come in and help you. If you work, you have to engage with your boss to keep him or her apprised of what is going on. You might need Family Leave. The hardest thing is to ASK. Just do IT!
