I moved to wa about a year ago and I've been searching for a caregiver support group. More specifically for spousal caregivers. It's been quite a disappointing search cause online the caregiver support system looks amazing but as I searched deeper, I'm learning it may all be for show. I've called a dozen agencies who have referred me to a other agencies and so on but none were able to directly give me a group I can't contact to join.

Joleen, an in-person support group can really make a huge difference, so I wish you luck! What disease/condition does your spouse have? Have you contacted the state or regional office of the organization for that disease? I know you have tried agencies so maybe you've already done this. If someone calls the Lewy Body Dementia Association, for example, and asks for support groups in my location they would be given the name of the group I belong to and a local contact person. That is, in fact, how some of our new members find us.

Good luck!

(And participating on the forums here, or perhaps at a site specific to your spouse's disease, can also be immensely helpful. I've done both for years. Great help!)

Almost every nursing home has monthly support meetings for families. They would be glad to have you. Find one near by.
