She uses her walker and helps herself, but is still unsteady and I have to assist her some or change her depends underwear if it's wet - she has a weak bladder. I sleep for two hours, then she gets up and it wakes me, then I sleep another two hours before she gets up again. Usually, I'm awake at 12:30, 2:30 am and 5:30 am approximately. Then I have to get up to let in the aide who comes at 8 am. I can't afford an aide overnight as well as daytime. How does one cope with interrupted sleep? I'm tired....

Daughteralone - I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I had a similar problem with my mother-in-law and her bladder. It's so hard anyway, but especially when you can't even get a decent amount of sleep. Have you talked to her doctor about giving something to help her sleep better, and just having her wet in the diaper? You would need pads (which you probably already have) on the bed in case of leaks, but at least maybe you could get a little more sleep? We also used the "overnight" pads by Teena in the Depends to help with the leakage, and it seemed to help. If you don't want to try that, you could try putting a bedside commode in her bedroom and at least she's not getting up and walking as far. Good luck!!

I have put a bedside potty chair next to my mothers bed, she can get to it herself and with the baby monitor she can call me for help if she needs it. She recently was diagnosed with normal pressure hydocifelus (sorry for spelling) and she went from 6 times a night to two after having a brain shunt put in. Hope this helps! What about a key for the aide?
