How much should be charged by a caregiver that works 24/7 getting room and board?

StressedOut365, I do all of the care of the lady I take care of. I do not do any yard work and wouldn't. I did have an issue like you are having with the grandson only it was the son and put my foot down. It is not your job to care for anyone but her. I suggest you let this person know you are there to take care of her needs and no one else's. If you are not being paid you need to be. If grandson wants a maid he needs to pay for one. gladimhere is right you should find someone that won't take advantage of you like that. There are so many people out there wanting to stay home and are willing to take care of the person they choose to do that for them. I am getting ready to put the ball in the ladies families court and they can choose to make it right or good luck finding someone else that will do what I've done for 2 years for nothing. I will keep you in my prayer if you don't mind.

I would get the heck out! Then report them to the Department of Labor.

StressedOut, you sound more like a live in maid than a caregiver, in my opinion a caregiver's primary job should focus around actual care, the other stuff should not be part of your duties. And where I live there are (thankfully) very strict guidelines concerning hours of work, days off and vacations for live in workers, this is a job with room and board not slavery :(

I too am 24/7 365 with room and board. What are all your actual duties? I sometimes feel I’m being taken advantage of because I am expected to do all the cleaning, deep cleaning, washing her yards and yards of sheers and curtains, lawn work, trimming bushes, weeding the gardens, carpet cleaning, probably mowing the lawn this summer, fertilizing the yard, wash and waxing the 1998 Town Car. I’m 60 yrs old and have asthma/COPD. I have said no to some things, especially when she pays her son in law to do some of the outdoor projects! Not only do I care for her but her 25 yr old grandson lives here, doesn’t work and does absolutely nothing around here. I cook for both of them, clean up after him, do all his laundry. Sorry I didn’t answer your question, I just needed to vent. This house is so cluttered with figurines and it is wall to wall mirrors and glass! It’s a nightmare to even try to keep it clean because they both are extremely messy and sloppy people .

Do you live there? What do you do the rest of the time? Does someone else come and relieve you after your 8 hours is up?
