Hi kendall - sounds like you need a break and possibly a permanent one. As lsmiami says she may qualify for Medicaid. You could start by contacting your local Agency on Aging and Social Services to see what options are available to her. Her doctor may also have some ideas about suitable care. In the meanwhile either of these agencies may be able to direct you to some resources to help you get some time for yourself. If you have taken care of your mother all her life, that indicates to me that she had had some problems, possibly psychological. I understand that and have a similar situation and a tired too. As we ourselves age, caregiving gets harder. (((((hugs)))) to you and I hope you get some help. Let us know.

You stated you are the only child. If not you,is there anyone else that is willing to help your Mother? It's your Mother, why giveup on your Mother?I would never giveup on my Mother if I had your chance.Enjoy your Mother and deal with it.Sounds like you need a break. That's understandable.
You stated she is 81, frail physical health, declining mental and psychological health.Has very little income of her own.If her health is declining as you say,she don't have much longer.Contact your local APS's and explain to them what you want to do.

Mom may qualify for Medicaid. If her condition requires skilled nursing, she may be able yo go to a Nursing Home paid by Medicaid.
