Can one deduct travel and expenses while caring for an out of state friend who is ill? Friend has a handicapped daughter. Spent one month there.

Clarabelle, is your friend paying you a salary for being a caregiver? If yes, then you can take work related deductions.

No, she is not paying a salary. I would be providing meals, driving to dr. appointments, helping with disabled daughter,etc. Can money I spend, including my plane ticket there be deducted?

I agree but check with a tax person. Can't the friend reimburse you? You did her a big favor.
