I have had to retain an attorney because my mother whom I haven't seen in 10 years has taken out an Emergency protective order against me and my spouse. She's claiming domestic violence though we live in another state seven hours away and my husband and I were working (7 hours away in a different state) when the claimed violence occurred. She told my relatives, the police, and the court (via the order request) different stories. And when I spoke to her she had a different story for even me, 'her attacker.'

Is this even dementia or the attention seeking behavior I believe it to be? She does seem forgetful and her stories outlandish but it's a different story for whatever audience she's in front of.

This would be consistent with dementia. Has she been diagnosed? Not all wacky behavior is caused by dementia, of course. I think we'd all agree that there is something fundamentally wrong with this woman.
