My grandfather was in a nursing home where the ceiling fell on him 3 times. I had the nursing home put these incidents in writing and I also reported them to the city for an investigation. Can they attempt to sue him for not paying for the months he was in the room sleeping under a hole with corroded pipes and dripping water which caused damage to his personal items as well?

Thats Elder Abuse. I worked in a hospital 18 years. Did you take pictures? Who owns the place he was in? You should report them to the State Licensure Board and State Human Services. Here is an article link that provides natoonal hotline numbers. http://nursinghomeabuseguide.com/legal-action/reporting-nursing-home-abuse/

I'm not sure if the nursing home/resident relationship is the same as other landlord/tenant relationships, but I am including a link that may be helpful:
