Call the nursing home today. Request a meeting with someone in social services. Medicare will pay up to 100 days in a nursing home. Day 1-20 Medicare pays 100%. Days 21-100 Medicare pays all but a daily co-payment amount. It doesn't pay beyond 100 days per benefit period. This being you must be home at least 60 consecutive days in order to begin a new benefit period. Talk to them to get this straight. After this she would have to apply for Medicaid. Yes her SS will go to the nursing home, all but a monthly allowance. They can put a lien on her home for unpaid amounts. Get to their office now. You can do this
