I work full time and it worries me daily when away from her. I may have to quit my job to be home for her more. But we have bills to pay. We live in Virginia. Not a easy state to get answers or help.

Find Care & Housing
MissBillie, the vast majority of grown children who take care of their parents do not get paid, unless said parent can pay from their own savings.

Contact the Medicaid office in the Commonwealth of Virginia to see if your Mom can quality to be on Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. If she does qualify, check and see if your Medicaid office pays for family caregivers.

Please note each State has their own rules and programs. Don't be surprised if the pay is minimum wage for a minimum hours each week.

Check around your area to see if there is an Adult Senior day care center where your Mom can go and be around people closer to her own age. I noticed you had on your profile your Mom's health issues. I don't see any that would limit her from going. At 74 years old, she is still considered pretty young, the day care center might brighten her day and even make her feel better :)

You would not make enough to pay the bills. What you need is to sign her up for "in home" Medicaid. They should go by her income not yours. Hopefully you will get an aid for at least a few hours a day.

Was your Dad a Vet who served during a War? If so, she might be able to get Aid and Attendance. It would help pay the cost for an aide.

You should not give up your job. Does Mom have any money? Maybe a nice AL. Maybe Adult care while you work. Check ur benefits department to see if they offer anything.

Medicare does have something called "Intermittent care". Her doctor would need to put an order in for it.

Call your Office of Aging.
