If your neighbor is on Medicaid, and he needs a worker you can apply to your local Medicaid office to become said worker. Different states have different requirements. In my state we are called CDAC providers. We have to be re-certified every few years. Certification requires a background check and minimal paperwork. Then, once certified, you will need to maintain a daily record of what you do for the client. These records need to be kept for 5 years. His case manager can help you know how many billable hours he has for care. The case manager will also work with you to determine which tasks are payable.

You may be able to get "paid". If your neighbor is on Medicaid he could apply thru his DHS worker for funds that would allow you to be paid. Also if he is a Veteran, there is a program called Aide and Attendance. Your best bet would be to call the local Area Agency on Aging and speak with a representative there for direction and resources. If you neighbor is able to with his finances, you could ask him for some money to assist with the gas money and for your time assisting him with the house cleaning. Good Luck, it is so nice of you to look out for your neighbor! You will be rewarded in other ways for your kindness towards him.
