Lorna, the vast majority of us family caregivers do not get paid.... unless your parents can pay you from their own retirement fund, as SnoopLove above had mentioned. If yes, then you would need to draw up an employment contract.

Otherwise, you can check with Florida's medicaid office [different from Medicare] to see if your parents can qualify for Medicaid. If yes, some States do offer some payment to family caregivers but the pay would be quite minimal.

Lorna, bumping this up as it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Unfortunately, usually the only way to be paid is from the parents' own finances. CA has a program where recipients of Medicaid can have family caregivers care for them for a modest wage. I am not sure if FL has a similar program and hope others might have more information for you.
