Had to quit my job to care for my mother.

If you are referring to getting paid by Medicare/Medicaid the general answer I've seen on this forum is, "yes, but not full-time and probably minimum wage or close to it". And it may be different from state to state, county to county. If you are quitting your job to perform the care is it because you don't want mom to go into a nursing home? Maybe she doesn't want to go? Or because she doesn't have the finances to go into a NH?

It would be helpful to know a little more information about your situation: how old is your mother? How old are you? What is your mom's mental and physical condition? Do you have any other family (spouse, children)? What is your mom's financial situation? What state do you live in? Do you live in her house or she in yours? All these answers will help the experienced and wise people on this forum to give you the most appropriate help. Thanks

Ella, the vast majority of grown children do not get paid for taking care of a parent... unless the parent can pay you from their own retirement fund. If your Mom can budget to pay you, you will need to create an employment contract.

Now, if your Mom cannot budget to pay you, then see if your Mom can qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. Every State runs their own Medicaid program which is taxpayer funded. Most States will pay you, but don't be surprised if the pay is minimal wage for a few hours per week. You can check to see if there are other Medicaid programs that could benefit your Mom.
