There is not nearly enough information here to answer the question. Do you live together? If so, what percentage of his support do you provide? How much does he make? There are strict rules the IRS uses in claiming dependents. You may want to check into these rules to see if your ex qualifies.

Eons ago, when I got divorced, I paid a certified CPA to do my taxes. Since then there have been one or two times where I was using TurboTax or the other one and I wasn't quite so sure what to enter.

I know we like to b*tch and moan about the IRS, BUT, you can contact them FOR FREE (document it) and ask for advice. I did it once and was very satisfied. Try it, what do you have to lose? Even if you don't feel confident on what they say (likely due to communication errors), at least if you hire your own CPA, you will have a mutual language to speak

As the Brits say, "It's a sticky wicket." I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, if you do it soon-ish (closer to the deadline...they are slammed). Better to be safe than sorry!
