He is 70 years old, has lung cancer that has spread to his brain and is no longer able to work. He only gets social security and has been paying 400 towards rent. I pay for all the rest, all of the groceries and some of his medications.

I agree, they aren't married. He must get SS. If $1000 a month that's 12K a year. He gives u $400-$4800 a year leaving him $7200 left half would be $3600. Can you prove you put more out than that? This question needs to be asked to an acct or tax repairer.

Maybe. You can go to the IRS website and take about a 10 min questionaire and it will tell you if he qualifies as a dependent.

I don't think so if you aren't married.

Possibly if you provide more than 50% of his support. I would look it up online though.
