Can I ask for 24/7 care at home? I was told asking for 24 hours could get me involuntarily put in a nursing home or ALF which I don't want. I live in Florida. I have Medicaid and Medicare. My doctor thinks I can get 24 hour care based on my medical conditions but I'm scared to request it because I don't want to get sent away.

Check with your Medicaid caseworker and see if your State allows 24/7 in home care. Even a few hours maybe better than nothing.

I can pretty much guarantee you that most people who live in a nursing home or AL were not jumping for joy at the prospect of making that move, nonetheless the wise ones took the time to research the best options available in order to balance their quality of life with the realities of the need for care. Sometimes aging in place and dying at home are not the best choice.

If you truly ill enough need 24/7 care I have some serious doubts about your ability to manage this on your own, supervising this really requires a lot of time and effort because it seldom runs like a well oiled machine. If you do not have anyone you trust to help you and to act as your financial and medical POA's what you fear would likely happen when your physical and/or mental health decline to the point where you can no longer actively direct your own care. In order to make this work you need to think this through very carefully and make detailed plans for every possibility.

Who told you this? What are your medical conditions? Have you discussed this with your social worker to see if Medicaid would pay for 24/7 care in FL county? It can differ from state to state, that's why it's probably best to ask a FL social worker from your county.

No, if you are still mentally competent, you won't be

No one can force you to go anywhere. That's only if you are deemed mentally incompetent and someone has guardianship for you.

Ask for homecare, there are many resources out there.
