VA Aid & Attendance or a widows pension may be an option if you cannot make ends meet. You have to have the MD sign the application showing you need help for ADL's: feeding bathing dressing and are homebound and have less than $80,000 in assets. You can have both if there is a need.

You should contact the VA. There may be funds but it depends on your situation. Are you a war vet? Did you have combat duty? Or was your spouse? How much you can draw before you go over depends on your age. The amount of any additional help or earnings without incurring penalty for SS depends on your age. If you are at your full retirement age, which is dependent on your birth year, then there is no limit. If you are below, then there may be some limitations.

If you live near VA center, contact them. Also there is a website for them with a lot of information. There is some help for surviving spouses and some help for actual vets.
