Taking my mother's cell phone away because she has dementia only hurts her. My brother is doing this only because she wants to call me, her daughter that she loves and her brother, this is making her cry daily.

I have a feeling there is more to it than that. Chances are that she was making multiple calls to other people. That happens quite often when someone has dementia. Why did he say he took her phone?

Barbarasbaby61, sadly cellphones and the elderly do not always mix, especially if there are memory issues. The phones become more and more complicated.

Curious, who told you that the cellphone was taken away? Was it your brother, if yes, what was his reason? If it was Mom, you need to think it may be the dementia doing that talking.

Depending on where your Mom is living, can an old fashioned landline be used? Those are soooo much easier for an elder to use. It rings, they pick up the receiver, no pushing a half dozen buttons to answer a call [on my cell, it take takes 3 buttons to finally get to the caller, 2 of them just to unlock the phone]. Landlines don't turn off when not in use :)

My Mom forgot how to use any kind of phone. Brother can always dial the phone for her.
