I cant be the only person wondering about what has happened after you wrote about how concerned you were about your mother. It is nearly 3 weeks now - please keep us informed.

lisasylum, when was the last time you saw your Mom? Did she show signs of dementia? If yes, and it has been quite some time since you last saw her, her dementia may be at a point where it has completely changed her personality. If that is the case, your brother should tell you that is what is going on.

Talk to an Elder Law Attorney to see what is the best approach to this situation.

Power of attorney is not a license for kidnapping. I'd speak to an elder care attorney about possible elder abuse.

Your brother may think his behavior is “protective” or he may be refusing to seek treatment for her, but it is very rare that even “violent” residents can’t be managed through medication.

In your situation I think I’d want to check the situation with a lawyer who specializes in geriatric/family law.

Your mother’s safety and welfare are more important than your brother’s self interest. Good luck on this.

I don't think your brother can be forced to reveal information about your mother's whereabouts. I guess you could speak to an attorney to see if a letter can be drawn up demanding this information be released at the threat of legal action to be taken if it isn't. Whether such legal action can actually be taken or not, I don't know...........but it could frighten your brother into giving you the info you seek.

Have you tried speaking to your brother directly about this?

Best of luck
