Rencently, Dad has been in hospital twice for UTIs. This last time for almost 2 months. Medically, he has a little age related memory loss (he's 95), a little trouble walking and he has early stage stomach cancer the we are not treating yet.
The assessment team and I thought he should go into a rest home. In Canada, you have to take the first bed offered and may request a transfer to a preferred facility 60 days later though it may take longer to get into it. So, after 3 days, I cannot allow hom to stay in this place. It is just AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. It feels like a dumping ground. He is so much more high functioning than the vast majority of the other inmates.
I want to bring him home to his house and avail ourselves of the extensive network of Community Care available. I work from home and live a 15 minute drive from him. No other family. He raised me since I was 8.
Am I crazy?

From what you describe, I think you are right. I am in the US and my 95 YO mother is in a clean NH and is thriving. So, I normally support long term care. Do private homes exist there, that take in a handful of elderly?

You are not crazy, but three months from now you will be.
