Chicken Soup for the Soul: Living with Alzheimer's & Other Dementias Like all the chicken soup books it is divided into easy read short stories, not so much a how to as heart warming lessons in how others have coped.
36 hour is too long and Peter Rabins has never been a caregiver. Although he is an expert, he has never been a hands-on caregiver. 36 hour is not always detailed enough. The best book is Surviving Alzheimer's, Practical Tips and soul-saving wisedom for caregivers. Paul Spencer Scott has been a caregiver and was a writer for Caring website. The part of bathing is so detailed. It is really amazing description for a task that gives many of us real problems.
I have to admit that I found "Loving Someone Who Has Dementia", by Pauline Boss, incredibly tedious (it reads like an essay or dumbed down dissertation, complete with footnotes) and not terribly helpful, but maybe those who are new to the topic and haven't a clue would feel differently.
ADC, I looked at the preview of Surviving Alzheimer's on amazon, it looks fantastic! A very easy to read style, and the table of contents seems to cover almost every topic that keeps coming up on the forum. It sounds like it would be a great resource for every caregiver, not just those new to the disease.
