Are there any benefits available to non-relatives who live in the home and give care to the elderly?

This Social Security beneficiary has a roommate who provides transportation, sorts out and sees that she takes her medication and food, and provides needed companionship and guidance on a daily basis. Are there any benefits available to her for her services?

Effective September 1, 2014, the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is expanding the STAR+PLUS Managed Care program to cover all counties not previously transitioned to Managed Care. Individuals served through the Community Based Alternatives (CBA) Medicaid Waiver under a DADS contract will be enrolled in STAR+PLUS effective September 1, 2014.
