Are there any benefits I can draw, due to loss of work to care for parents?

Patricia, sorry I am not familiar with at-home computer work. There are some posters on here who do work from home, but it is becoming very difficult for them as their Mom, Dad, or both are needing more and more attention.

Vast majority of grown children are not paid as caregivers unless their parent(s) can pay them from their own pocket.... if your parents can pay you, set up an employment schedule showing how many hours per week, the wages per hours, and who will be paying the payroll taxes.

If your parents can afford to pay you, they could easily hire a professional caregiver so that you can return to your job. You are losing an awful lot of money, and a lot of benefits when you quit work. Hope you have health insurance.

With unemployment you need to be available for interviews and for employment if a company offered you a job. Would that be an option for you, or are your future plans to continue to be a full-time caregiver for your parents?

Patricia, if you end up paying out of your own pocket for someone to care for your parents while you work or look for work, you should at least be eligible to deduct some of the expense on your taxes (irs.gov, search for dependent care credit). Hope that helps a little bit!

I have to care for Dad 24/7 and unavailable but will rejoin the work force in time. Any home work from computer that I can help offset expenses?

Contact your local agency that assists with seniors and disability situations. There are some organizations that help pay a family member who has to quit a job to take care of parents or siblings. In my area they are called "Society's Assets".

Patricia, check to see if your father can qualify for Medicaid. The State might allow a trained Caregiver come in to help for a couple hours. Also check to see if your State is one of those States that has a “Cash and Counseling” program to help you out, it‘s worth looking into. Note that each State has their own rules, regulations, and programs.

Structured Family Caregiving is a service that pays you to live with and provide service to friends or loved ones. Have you tried looking into it? It is called different things in different states but in Indiana it is called Structured Family Caregiving. May want to Google it!
