Bedridden in a nursing home.

My mother’s care home brings in a stylist every few months. I once brought in my own mobile stylist, with the home’s permission. A recent change: she now gets bed (sponge) baths. I also just took in some Cavilon no-rinse cleanser for them to try. Do ask the staff.

My mother's caregiver actually liked to cut her hair. She didn't know anything about it at first, but she trimmed it around her face and in the back, and she even curled it a bit on top with a curling iron. There may be a caregiver on the NH staff who would enjoy fixing your mom's hair. As for time, it didn't take mom's CG long to cut it. Maybe ten minutes if she didn't curl it.

My mother was a two person assist for every move in her nursing home. Her roommate for much of her time there was a lady who virtually never left her bed. My mother was taken to the on-site hairdresser weekly for washing and styling. Her roommate’s hair was washed and dried in the bed by the staff as needed. I cannot understand why the staff where your mom is wouldn’t be routinely handling this?

We have a small inflatable tub, very small so a caregiver can wash Mom's hair. She is bedbound. They sell these on Amazon. The same caregiver cuts Mom's hair occasionally.

No such thing as bed ridden. I'm a nurse and all of my patients can get up. We use a hoyer lift for the most difficult patients.

I agree thatvstaff should be washing Moms hair. Also, ask staff about hairdressers who will come in.

When my mom was in a nursing home for rehab, they had a hairstylist who tended to residents hair.

If there isn’t a hairstylist there, call different salons because some people will go to nursing homes to wash, cut and style hair for the residents.

When it became too much for my mom to go to the salon I found a stylist who came to our house to cut and style her hair.

My mom's nursing home washed her hair in the spa tub when she had her twice weekly bath, they used a sling to transfer her from her wheelchair to the tub. Mom also was transferred to her tilt wheelchair every day so she was able to leave her room for her meals and attend activities (and get her hair cut too).

Also there are good dry shampoos, I would talk to the staff, get it a good wash, then after use the dry shampoo, when needed

My mother was on hospice last year in a NH. Her hospice nurse suggested a woman who could come to cut her hair. She did a wonderful job especially as my mother had to remain in bed. The hospice nurse was present with her. When I asked her fee she said I could send whatever I wanted. I believe I was generous as she had to travel a bit to get to the NH.

Regarding shampooing the staff should be dealing with this. I believe there is a special cap for these situations. Yes as Alva replied the NH should provide information regarding this. We were fortunate to have the added advice from the hospice company. The lovely woman did this as a service to those in need.

Ask the nursing home. They will guide you.
