Does anyone have any suggestions for a mat to put under the commode to protect hardwood floors?

Various suppliers offer a thin plastic sticky mat made to protect hardwood. It comes is a 3 ft wide roll & you cut it to fit your application. It is thin 3 mil plastic film that is slightly sticky on one side so it does not slide around.

I've been wondering the same thing. Only for us, it's a matter of cold feet when changing Depends. I'm worried about tripping, but Mom keeps putting a bath mat there. Sometimes it sticks to her foot as she walks. We made a deal that she would kick the mat into the corner, but that puts the sol'n on her. Not the best answer. At my work, somebody put a small industrial rubber mat in the restroom. It has a layer of faux carpet. I'm still thinking it could be a trip hazard, but it's an idea. I also have a thin roll of rubber mat for the back of my car. I found it at the farm store. I wonder if you could cut something like that to fit around you toilet? Your floors would be subject to dampness underneath, though. Could you put a thick layer of something (verathane?) that could be refinished later? Or simply take out the floor and put it back down the road?
