Placing my mother in a New Jersey assisted living that is approximately 8,000.00 a month. My sister-in-law may want to place her mom (who has currently resided with me for the last five years) in a facility in Florida, because she thinks it is cheaper and she lives down there 6 months out of the year.

I think you have to consider more than the cost.... what happens to your MIL for the 6 months a year that she has no family to look out for her? Even if she doesn't necessarily need someone near right now, it won't be easy to reverse this decision as her needs increase.

I found an Adult Care Home here in Florida -Gulf Coast-for my mom after spending $6,000-$8,000 a month for an ALF for years. That really wasn't that great pretty and fancy yes, but it is the behind the scene care that counts not the lobby, public areas. They would leave them in chairs all day not change them etc...
I am happy with this home 2 patients in a private home set up to be a small ALF they include everything-food, depends, showering, laundry. The home is immaculate. The family care doctors come directly to the home, the foot doctor as well as therapy PT,OT etc..nurse on call 24/7 if needed. About 1/3 rd the cost with private room, handicap accessible home and a much more home like friendly enviroment .
I know they have one opening now if you are interested, message me and I can give you the info.Cost depends on level of care but as I said much cheaper and a personal touch- not people coming in and out all the time, changing staff etc..good luck and yes I am sure either way it is cheaper here from my research!

Oh, we are two miles from Legoland, if that helps with the area we are in.

My mother is in one, in central Florida. She pays 3295.00. Her monthly rent is 2895.00, plus she pays 400.00 for her ADL which is showering. There are extras that can be added on if she went to the beauty shop. I live a mile from where she is so I supply her Depends, and Ensure. I'm so close, there are a couple of times a week that I drop her cat off with her in the mornings, and pick her up in the afternoons. Mom has a private room, all her meals are included, it is clean, and they have an abundance of activities.
