His wife is not the best help. They live on second floor. He fell last night. They are at VA in Palm Bch now but we expect them to go home. Initially believe some home assistance 2-3 times per week due to the steps.

What I need is a ramp to get him off the back porch to the patio and then some sort of walk to get him to the street to get him in the car. I am thinking that perhaps extending the patio and adding a walk would take care of that. We are only talking about about 25 feet, at most. Thank you fo the comments.

Couple of suggestions- that is a inexpensive powered wheelchair ramp if only a few outside steps. Only 8 foot long and usually can be installed in an enclosed garage to keep you out of rain/snow/ice. The stair lifts are not too costly if the stairs are straight. If you are looking for a portable unit that lifts a wheelchair up step by step (in your house or elsewhere) I could suggest a different company. Would be glad to offer mobility advice if you want- google Friendly Beds.

I am having to pay for transport every time we leave the house. My husband is in a wheelchair and so is trapped in the house without help. I am trying to get someone to put in a wheelchair ramp. I have reached out to agencies of all kinds and so far have no answer. I was shocked that it would be so hard to get a ramp until we got to this place. I tell you all this so you maybe will start looking before you think you may need it because once you're here, you're trapped .

My father-in-law used the kind of chair that attaches to the hand rail and people can ride down the steps. It's not cheap, but was very useful for him. If his only problem is steps, I hope you can come up with some solution.
Take care,
Carol
