My elderly mom may soon need some extra income to pay for home health care or other care at home. I was told different things about the asset limit which would qualify her and also about whether they would count her home value.

VA won't count the home she lives in. They do look back 5 years to be sure she did not give anything away. If she has more than $80K in savings, spend it down only on her care or her house maintenance. They look at her monthly income plus savings vs monthly expenses. Her MD fills out a form detailing what care she needs. The care agency details what they are providing in their contract.
