Big hugs. I think you have it right, that no matter how good the care the situation is still heart-breaking. Good luck with the place you have found for her, I hope she settles in rapidly to become one of their favourite residents.

My mom , soon to be 88. Dementia, but still shows some of her real self. Mobile, but tiny and breakable. My heart just breaks for her.

I realize all this. I was just hoping for that little diamond in the rough that I haven't heard of yet. I just have to figure out timing now.

Ihaveonenow, we could mention specific places. My mom was in Grande Village in Bedford. But what worked for me may not work for you. You don’t say who needs to be placed or what their issues are, and even if you did, happiness and satisfaction with a facility is a personal thing. What worked for me may not work for you. Legwork and research by you, personally, are the best ways to find a facility that meets your specific needs. Good luck.

I have been around to several facilities over the last 2 years. I do have one in mind. I was just hoping someone would mention one that they were happy with. In reality I guess no matter what it isn't a happy situation.

We live in a suburb of Akron, which is close to Cleveland. Both my parents-in-law and my Mom were in nursing homes here. In-laws were in high-end facilities. Oddly enough, both of those high-end places smelled of urine and had staff I wasn’t that crazy about. My MIL facility had staff who were cold and brusque. My mom was in a Medicaid facility and they were as wonderful and kind as they could be. The place was spotless and never smelled. Everyone was as nice to my difficult mother as they could be, as well as to me.

I’m telling you this because the best way to find a facility is to go check them out. Websites can be misleading, but they’re a good starting point. Make a list, visit some places to see if they’d be a good fit for your LO, and then narrow down the list.
