Has your dad applied for medi-cal? Medicare doesn’t pay for long term care. Medi-cal will pay only if it’s medically necessary. Santa Clara county social services where you would find all the information you need. There are nursing homes in San Jose/Santa Clara county that accept Medicaid. Whether or not there are available beds is a different question, some nursing homes have a specific number of medi-cal rooms (I’m in a neighboring county. My husbands grandmother was in a nursing home paid for by medi-cal and there was a wait list at first and then she was removed from her private room and put into a shared room. They don’t give private rooms to medi-cal patients apparently).

You can start with this AgingCare website. Go to the home page, or any page I think, there should be a big blue box that says Find Care & Housing. Enter your contact and someone will call you back.

Not sure what kind of “Care home” you’re looking for. Has your dad been evaluated for his needs? Assisted Living, memory care, long term nursing home? What does his doctor say? San Jose’s a big place and surely there will be lots of options, but first you need to know what kind of help he needs to narrow it down, then figure out how to pay for it.

Maybe be a poster with California Medi-Cal knowledge will chime in.
