My Nana was diagnosed with/ has been living with vascular dementia for the past 5 years. She has had visual issues with mirrors which has ramped up in the past couple months - we have covered all mirrored surfaces, and now working on covering the reflective surfaces that seem to be troubling her. Recently though in the past few weeks - she seems to be having auditory delusions, of people calling her name and conversations happening around her or with the “people” in the reflective surfaces. I’m just wondering if these issues seeming to compound recently are signs that her disease is progressing more rapidly than before.

While it might be uncommon for Vascular dementia to cause auditory hallucinations, (usually it is more visual hallucinations)it is not impossible either. My mom also has vascular dementia and she too has suffered from them.I am so sorry you and your mom are experiencing this. I know all to well how awful and heartbreaking it can be.

My mom has hallucinations. Hears conversations in regards to the hallucination. Hears things when she uses her hearing aides.is she progressing ? Yes… nurse practitioner put her on medication. It helped, then, started up again. We just upped her dose recently and is better.
If this is concerning for your Nana , she can be treated.

It is possible that your nana has multiple issues, one being vascular dementia but others not related to the vascular dementia. She needs to see a psychiatrist.
Do the voices bother her? Sometimes for those who have auditory hallucinations, the voices are welcomed. If they don’t bother her, perhaps the best course is to not treat them. The treatment will also have side effects. See that she gets the appropriate medical attention to go over ALL her symptoms to work out what will make her more comfortable.
