If applying for Medicaid, will it hurt my mom to be on a credit card with my dad?

We are in the process of applying for Medicaid for my Mom because she broke her hips 8 months ago and is in a Nursing Home and will never be able to come home. She is on a credit card with my Dad. Will that hurt her? Does he need to close the card and open a new one in his name only?

I agree with BarbBrooklyn above. Medicaid can be complex so you would need the guidance of an Elder Law Attorney as they know the ins and out of the Medicaid system.

You go, asap, to a certified Eldercare attorney and discuss the options. Your dad is the " community spouse" and protections need to be put in place so that he does not become impoverished.
