When my dad had to go into skilled care they allowed him to stay while he was going through the Medicaid process. Medicaid back-paid the facility once he was approved.
This is a question that needs to be asked of the proper staff at the facility - the administrator or social worker would be a good place to start. They are really the only ones that can answer your question.
With that said, *most* facilities will hold a bed (allow the patient to stay) if Medicaid has been applied for. But you need to keep in mind that if Medicaid is for any reason denied (too much income, too many assets, etc), she will be put on private pay or asked to leave, most likely. Not trying to scare you here, just prepping you for any eventuality. Medicaid apps can take quite a while to process, depending on the situation. If your mom's situation is pretty straightforward (no excessive assets, no excessive income, just social security, her private home and one car), then it shouldn't take too long to get approval.
Again, you really need to ask the facility this question, because we don't know their policies. I hope this helps a little bit, at least.
HELP!! MY MOM'S TIME IS RUNNING SHORT AT HER FACILITY.........
My elderly mom has been staying in a Rehab Facility since May 9, 2017. She will be discharged from that service to the Skilled Care service as of May 29, 2017. I applied for Medicaid for her this past Friday May 26, 2017. My question is......will the Skilled Care Facility allow my mom to stay there even though she does not have the Medicaid yet but can show paper proof from the Social Services Department that I have applied for her? Otherwise, what can I do to keep her at that facility?

Did you receive guidance or direction from the social worker or admin staff at the center?
