If your dad is not destitute, that means he has funds to pay for his care. Either he hires and agency to send in caregivrrs, or he sets up a caregiver contract to pay you for his care.

Sabrina, a majority of adult children do not get paid to take care of their parent.

There are two choices, the adult child quits work..... or the parent hires their own caregivers or moves into a senior living complex.

If you want to talk to an attorney than I would recommend an Elder Law Attorney who deals with Medicaid and other documents that your Dad should have at his age, like a Living Will, Power of Attorney, and if Dad has a large estate, then to have the estate put into a Trust.

How far over the limits is he financially? See an Elder Law attorney for ways to qualify.

Sabrina, have you researched the mediCal Spend Down? When you say MediCal im assuming you're in Ca? Please google the qualifications for MediCal or Medicaid acceptance, and get some info on what it covers and what it doesn't. And look up the Spend Down rules specifically in your state. However, It's not going to pay rent or bills or an income for you, but maybe he would qualify for a little help and at least he doesn't have to really become destitute for that first. Good luck
