Hi everyone! First off, sorry I haven’t been on much...have had computer fatigue. But a hundred zillion times THANK YOU for existing, this forum is a sanity saver!
Anyone here have experience w/their LO and intracranial hemorrhage? This is a vague question but I’m just wondering what most generally to expect.
Mom went into the ER on Saturday and is getting out of the neuro ICU today. She also has dementia and evidence now ( after I told doctors and nobody listened ) of microbleeds. And she’s combative and they’ve had to put her in restraints. Poor mom! Poor nurses! Currently in a hospital with good physical care, but their communication/organization is crap so I’m all ears to hear your experiences with this type of issue as a basic what-maybe-to-expect. For the record, She has been on Coumadin for a while, which with her history has been a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don’t prescription, I feel her doctors have tried their best to make the right calls regarding her health, so no blame there.
As an aside, this same week my BF and pets fled their home/work, in the middle of the night down a mountain on fire, and have been with me until this morning. Flames 200 feet high where he lived. Now surrounded by smoke and I can’t leave the house due to smoke sensitive asthma. Then mom in the ER then ICU with a very sad issue that is enhancing her worst traits by a zillion. Plague of locusts is next I figure.
Pity party over but I am sipping a small glass of red wine while I type!! Bless you all
So, if mom had a sudden change in mental status, please make sure they do a CULTURE for a UTI, not just a rapid test. Utis can cause sudden onset behavioral symptoms.
Long ago, my mom was in the neuro ICU and then on the neuro floor of a big teaching hospital. What she had was NOT a neuro issue; they got an internal med consult, but the neuro folks continued to insist that THEY were in charge of her treatment (her electrolytes were out of whack and the neuro folks were not equipped to deal with that).
I finally went to the Int Med chief resident and said "Are you going to let neuro kill my mom, or are you going to get her onto YOUR service so that she can get the correct workup and treatment?".
10 minutes later, mom was being wheeled onto the I.M. floor for better treatment.
If your mom doesn't have a neuro issue, she doesn't belong in a neuro unit. Get a UTI test and psych consult to get a better idea of the big picture.
