We are going to try assistance for my 99 y/o aunt so she can return to her own home. She has macular degeneration and is legally blind, has had more decrease in her hearing, and needs encouragement to eat a better diet. Rehab is recommending 6-8 hours a day. It does not need to be much more than meal prep, general supervision when walking around the home, help when she does laundry and general light housekeeping, companionship, and keeping her moving about with exercise. She is very independent but ends up on the floor and can not get up on her own. Using an alert system has not been successful and she does things way beyond her real capabilities.
The CareLinx group looks like a great idea but I would like to hear from others who may have used the service.

Same thing that Windyridge described, happened to us when my husband called an on-line ad for help with locating local assisted living facilities... Each of these kind of on-line services have a limited list of businesses and facilities the represent. The young woman who called my husband and sent many emails, etc., was very nice, open and honest about how her service worked (especially because my husband ASKED her how her service worked...) and in some ways it was educational, we learned some things about local full-care and assisted living facilities... But my mother recovered enough to return home.. and now she's 95 and like your Aunt, she's remarkably capable, but definitely needs help... if she'll accept any and be willing to PAY for it.... ! So, I'm starting my own search for in-home help for her... GOOD LUCK and bless you for helping your Aunt....

My only experience was registering on line in responce to some ad. I don't remember the name of the company but OMG, I was besieged with phone calls and emails and most of the calls were from off shore and ridiculous. I assume there are headhunter referral networks out there that get percentages etc for leads they deliver.

I would certainly look into the one that AgingCare offers.

I once tried to find in home care for a love one and used a list I obtained from the local Senior Center. It was a long list and I called almost every single person. Most of them were all booked up or didn't live close enough. I was shocked at how difficult it was. Good luck.

AgingCare.com offers a free service to help caregivers find in-home care and other services. We used their service and found a great home care agency and caregiver for mom.
