Anyone know of a respite stay at an Assisted Living shorter than 30 days?

Thank you. A few have told me that used to be done but most want that 30 day stay , it's about making $ after all.
So today I booked a very expensive beach house in Florida with an elevator and I'm going to take her with us. I'll bring along my sis in law to help. I figured we'd be better off spending the money (some of her money ) on that. It's still cheaper than the 8k for the month. I wish someone would make a sleep away camp for seniors!

Find a senior housing placement specialist because they will know all the places near you that might still offer a respite room. I’m in MN and many still do but require at least a 7 days stay. You might have a Area Agency on Aging that possibly could know too, but not sure. The placement specialist may require a small fee to help you because they are not paid unless the person is “placed” and a respite option is not a placement. Even at the facility their objective for respite includes this test drive of their facility with the hope of staying. Good luck.

I got in touch with "a Place for Mom" and they were able to give me four different facilities to consider. Each facility has called me and I am in now in the process of setting up the schedule to tour them. I was quoted a price of $195 a day for memory care by one facility. This particular facility charges only $170 a night for a nursing care facility but it's located in Florida but I'm sure if you get in touch with "A Place for Mom" they will get back to you immediately with a list of places to check out. Carolellen. I absolutely agree w a service for seniors. I was trying to find a vacation spot or rental that would do just that - allow us to go together, but provide activities and supervision for when the person w dementia needs it and the carer(s) need a break. I see them in other countries. Maybe time to draw up a business plan!

My husband goes to one when I need respite, both day care and occasional overnights. Hospice will have that information as they use them. Also, contacting your local area council on ageing or Alzheimer's Association may be able to help. My husband's is called Silverado and they are a chain but not sure if they extend to that area. Yes, it is a much needed service and, hopefully, it will work out for you. You definitely need the respite.

Thanks to everyone. A place for mom was contacted, they are unable to find a shorter stay as well. I suppose it can be a regional thing as previously noted above. I'll keep looking , I have until March.

Contact your local Area Agency on Aging, They can give you Caregiver Support and assist in finding a placement for Mom so you can have respite time.

Carolellen: Wow! All I can say is that you must be a saint to not only have your mother living with you, but also taking her on a two-week vacay! Good gosh! Do YOU expect to have much, if any, fun?

😂. Certainly not even close to saintly! I read alot of the posts from people here. Most times I can't believe that I have it a lot better than others. I'm grateful that she can still manage her own ADLs and that she can have a conversation. I'm hopeful that she will enjoy hanging at the beach house watching her grandkids and great grandchild swarm about. I noticed she just loves to be sitting in the fray.... then she naps ...comes back out , sits in the chair , eats then repeat!! As for me I intend on having plenty of beer on ice. My grown 20somethings will lend a hand. So if you hear a story about a grandma who's wheelchair was put on top of water skis ? You'll know who it was!! This will for sure be the biggest trip of her life! ( parents from the depression , did nothing for themselves!!) true I never wanted to take her, but now it sounds like I'm talking myself into it. And it's only for one week not two. Thanks for listening.
