Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for applying for SSI? My husband is disabled and also over 65 and I know those are 2 requirements. We desperately need financial help. Thanks for your answers.
Hi, JoAnn. No, hubby doesn’t collect disability. He did when he first became disabled 4 years ago, but that stopped when he started collecting SS. All we have is our Social Security. No other income, annuities, savings, insurance, etc. And, it’s not enough...
My husband was in a fire and put in a coma for a couple of months. I applied and for him. It was turned down twice. Third try was a charm. I did this myself. You can get a lawyer but they get a big cut. It takes a lot of effort and paperwork. Everyone gets turned down. Even people in a coma lol! Don't give up! By the time he was approved, he had a high chunk of money because they go back to when you first applied. He was approved for s.s. disability right after. Ten months later he went back to work and was off everything. He didn't need assistance anymore. The trick is to never give up! Good luck!
