It sounds crazy to me but my sister is trying to convince our father not to go to any type of Dr. or get blood work till this pandemic is over (and who knows how long that will take). I agree it’s best to have an appointment over the phone if possible, but it’s not always possible and I feel it can do more harm than good not taking care of his health needs. He needs eye surgery or his eyes will get worse and she’s telling him not to go to the office to have it done. She says better blind than coming down with the virus. I told her it’s easy for her to say that while she’s on the other side of the country not having to take care of him if he goes blind. Plus, is that really fair to him if it’s avoidable? He would be so depressed. He has dementia, But it’s not severe yet. So I’m asking him how he feels about it. He says I prefer going to the dr and having my surgery, but don’t tell your sister 😁 I never thought the hardest part of taking care of a parent could be disagreeing with siblings.

Martz, yes disagreeing with my siblings was hard for me. My brother was mom's POA and although she was hospice eligible, he refused to sign on and I didn't want to cause a drift by pushing.

Dad sounds like he's still able to make his own decisions, so he gets his surgery if the doctor is okay with doing it.

She’s not the caretaker, I am. Yet she calls him often and tells him what she thinks is best. Even though she told me she doesn’t ever want to be caretaker. Maybe she feels as the older sister she needs to tell everyone what to do? I don’t know 😁

What say so does your sister have in this situation?

I have gone to one doctor during the pandemic-- my podiatrist. I am prone to painful ingrown toenails and telemed doesn't cut it!

Doctors office are very aware of how to protect themselves and their patients from the virus. The office wouldn't be open if they weren't able to keep THEMSELVES safe.
