Find Care & Housing
I have a friend who was in Hospice. They refused to set it up as they said they were seeing infections. They said they would "near the end" but turns out they never did. There were also positional concerns in that to my understanding of what they said the person using it must be postitioned on their side, and my friend for the most part was on her back in semi-fowlers position (back and knees slightly raised). I gathered they meant to keep the apparatus in place.
So I am not certain. Perhaps depends upon the person using it. My friend who had hip surgery but had to get out of bed to bathroom frequently and had to strap on braces each time, used it in hospital and loved it. But this was a brief one week or so of use. And it was used at night.

I use the Pure Wick every night with my mother. It saves getting up with her several times a night. When I decided to use it I ask the nurses at the hospital for advice. They echoed the concerns about infection but were not seeing that in the hospital, probably due to keeping everything clean. Mom has been using it for almost 2 months at home. I am very careful to keep her clean and use gloves. It has been a lifesaver for sleeping. I also like seeing the color of the urine to monitor for UTIs. My only complaint so far is the cost since Medicare will not cover it.

When my friend was recently in home care, dying on hospice, they actually refused to use and said they were seeing increasing infections. This is, of course, hearsay.

My cousin used it with her mom who was bed-bound and thought it worked well. She also thought it worked well when she traveled with her. I have no personal experience with it.
