When he's bored he tends to play with it more, so I looked up things to buy for people with Alzheimer's when they do get bored, hoping it would help, but hasn't. He doesn't understand why it's there even though I explain it to him Over and Over and know he's forgotten everything I said. I don't know what else to do and I get tired of cleaning up poop. Has anyone ever had this problem and if so please tell me what I can do.

My mom had a colostomy in the past year (and recently had it reversed). Could you buy one of the cloth pouches it fits into with a velcro closure? Maybe if he can't see it, he won't bother it. I feel you pain with the colostomy though.

Sorry about your dad, sweetie. My mom is the same way (Alzheimer's) and used to mess with her colostomy bag when the hospitals and nursing facilities put those open ended Holister bags on (the ones with the opening at the bottom and the little clip on the end). They are a pain in the butt. Thank goodness we found and changed her to an enclosed bag by ConvaTec that attaches to her stoma and surrounds the colostomy opening with an adhesive plastic that works a lot better. The box says ActiveLife or ConvaTec and the reference number is 413147. It is a one-piece closed-end pouch. They are a lot easier to change and clean up and no openings to make a mess with. She has had this for several years and is irreversible because of other health problems. Hope this info helps you out.
