Aid and attendance; can I close Mom's VA checking account after her death?

Mom's fiduciary account received her monthly A&A funds.
Mom died in May. I have a little money left in VA checking account. Can I close this out? I’m her rep, daughter, executor in will.

I can't see why not. It was her money for her care. Since the eoy is so close, see if they contact you after the first of the year concerning the account. If not, close it.

Ok. I got my own answer. Went to bank to close out account. No can do.....since it was a custodian account it is part of estate. Now it has to go through probate. I most likely will have to open an “estate of” account, and pay taxes.
