How to have an active social life in the community? Going to concerts, museums, simply going out to breakfast or to a bakery. Especially when you're not able to drive or don't have nearby family support. Thank you.

Find Care & Housing
It’s a problem, and even worse if you live in an isolated place where there is nothing to ‘go out to’. I’d suggest doing a taxi budget, perhaps for a couple of times a month. One outing to a concert, one to a restaurant/ cafe. Making it regular gives you something to look forward to, and a chance to meet other people out your way who could share the taxi or offer a lift. It’s not as good as being mobile, and the other suggestions could be add-ons. But if you don’t fancy a senior centre or church events, it would help a bit.

Thanks so much. I like the goal of getting out a few times a month. It keeps you active and I agree, it gives you something to look forward to.

Community meaning they still live in their home? Call your local Office of Aging. My local one provides transportation for appts and shopping. There r other services too. My town has a Senior center. There maybe a volunteer who would pick a person up. Churches may have volunteers who will make sure they get to activities within the church.

Thanks so much. All of those are really good ideas and I'm also involved in a church. Thanks again.

Do research for community services organizations or groups, this would be a volunteer that would become a friendly visitor with outings.

I would also connect with faith based groups that do outings and companion programs.

It just takes a little research to find like minded groups. I would make it clear that you need transportation provided, also offer to pay for fuel for the courtesy of being hauled around, as it were. I personally never accept money but the offer shows me that my efforts are appreciated and no taken for granted.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks so much on this. I've got to start looking at community service groups that would volunteer or have visitor friendly outings. I'm personally aware of the faith based groups. Thanks again.
