One of my parents is 85 and suffered a stroke and the other is 89 and suffers from Vascular Dementia. I'm their guardian.

Are they too mentally disconnected to participate in any of the usual past-times? That is, reading, watching TV or movies on subjects they enjoy, playing Bingo or other games?

One of the best things for them is getting them outdoors. Is there a place at their assisted living center where they can sit outside and watch birds/hummingbirds, or help with gardening flowers?

My mom was pissine and moaning about for a long time about being bored..(she is still at home) tried to get her to go to the nearby Salavation Army Adult day care...but no...always has an excuse. Are they the type to whine about stuff just to whine even when you make suggestions or try to make arrangements.

I happen to drive by one of the Nursing homes that I first checked out for my mom and I did not like it at first, but the other day when I drove by it, I saw a pair of ducks by one of the sliding glass doors facing the street to this nursing home...and I thought heck...don't know why some folks don't want to go..I'd go just for the damn ducks!

Some assisted living places allow pets. Canary's, parakeets, cockatiels are entertaining to watch. If you visit at least once a week you could do the feeding/cleaning.
