Find Care & Housing
MediCal is californias version of medicaid. I know they cover home caregivers. The problem is my aunt lives in Vermont, and it appears that only certain counties allow for caregivers?

A lot of you call it Medicaide, I call it Medical. What are the differences between the two if you don't mind me asking.

Probably not first you have to apply for medicaide and it takes weeks to get an appointment and then you have a ton of work to do to get all the paperwork for example 3 years of all her bank statments which takes a couple of weeks if she only had one bank and it is almost immpossible to do it on your own and if she needs help with ADL's she probably will not be able to be any help. Social service love to tell people on medicare IF YOU ARE ON MEDICAIDE YOU GET ALL THE HELP YOU NEED-not so they only have so many employees to stretch so many ways and if she needs help to stay in her home she probably needs at least 8 hrs. a day and medicaide might give you 3-4 hrs a day if you are lucky and many times they will call the aide is not comming into and they do not care if she is alone-we had medicare which uses the same two agencies for the whole county and we were suppose ti have 3hrs, 3 times a week and were lucky to have 1 hr once a week and I had to get very firm to get that, You also will need an elder lawyer to help you with the application or a very good nursing home social worker if the person is in rehab in a nursing home-they make it almost impossible to do yourself-I am not being negative I have been through it my husband passed away 3 weeks into me working all day almost every day on it and did not even have the appointment to meet with social service-it is not for the faint of heart and usually she will be considered to have too many assests and have to pay her own way until she has spent down and aides cost about 25 or so dollars an hour and 24 hr. help is 1,500 dollars a week nursing homes where I live is 450 dollars a day.
