Her cardiologist said we could possibly try edibles to stimulate her appetite and increase her energy level. Has anyone had experience with this?

Find Care & Housing
Why do you not trust moms cardiologist? My mother had edibles and they calmed her anxiety greatly. She ate like a truck driver as it was though, so whether she got the munchies or not, Idk. I'd get a hospice evaluation for your mom before I did anything else. At 97 with weight loss alone, she's likely qualified. The heart issues add to the reasons.

Best of luck to you.

Your Mom is 97. They do sleep more and eat less. Medications don't leave the body as fast either. Does Mom have CHF? If so, this could be her problem.

Thanks for responding. She has arrhythmia and is on meds for that as well as her BP. She had a bypass 8 years ago and, until recently, had been doing well. I believe her recent lack of appetite has made things worse- she's lost weight and I think her med doses, as a result, may be too high.
and I think the levels of some of her meds may be too high.

You might ask for a med review instead, when my mother began to lose weight and become more frail everyone assure me she was nearing the end of life (she wasn't) but at least some of her symptoms came from being dangerously over medicated, the BP and heart meds she was on for decades were no longer suitable. Other than that I agree with what Daughterof1930 said, at 97 quality of life is what someone needs to focus on rather than longevity (even if you don't choose hospice)

Thanks for responding. That's one of my concerns. She's down to 93 lbs and takes several meds, o e of which is known to cause sleepiness. The Dr's seem to follow a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to dosing.

Edibles vary greatly. Some make one much MORE sleepy.
This is all for discussion with medical team involved with your loved one's care.

My 96-yr old Mom recently tried THC gummies and CBG tincture. She didn't like how it made her feel, even though I started her on very small doses then worked up. My Mom was taking it for pain. The CBG did increase her appetite but what is the point in increasing your Mom's appetite? To what end? Sleeping more can be a sign that her body is closing for business.

I agree that maybe a hospice assessment is what should happen now.

When my dad was on similar type meds and had similar symptoms his cardiologist asked him to consider home hospice as the treatments were no longer really effective. My dad thought about it and chose that path for himself. So, no edibles, just some compassion at the end of a long life. Just a thought
